Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former MP from Siwan Lok Sabha seat in Bihar Syed Shahabuddin has died due to corona infection. Shahabuddin was admitted for treatment at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in Delhi after being infected with the virus where Shahabuddin died today.
Tihar Jail DG Sandeep Goel said, "The death of Delhi jail prisoner Mohammad Shahabuddin has been reported from DDU hospital.'' He was infected with covid-19 and was admitted to the hospital on April 20. Jail authorities said he has admitted to the hospital ICU two-three days ago. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has now condoled the passing away of Shahabuddin. In his tweet, he wrote, "The sad news of former MP Mohammad Shahabuddin's untimely demise due to corona infection is painful. May God gives them a place in paradise, empower the family and well-wishers. His demise is an irreparable loss to the party. The RJD family is with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.''
It was only this morning that reports of Shahabuddin's death surfaced on social media. Though the Tihar jail administration denied such reports and termed it a rumor, the death was confirmed by his close relatives in the party, but he also said that the doctor has not declared Shahabuddin dead so far. More than three dozen criminal cases were going on against former MP Mohammad Shahabuddin, who was serving a sentence to life imprisonment in Tihar jail in connection with the murder case. He was ordered to be brought to Tihar from Siwan jail in Bihar by the apex court on February 15, 2018.
