HYDERABAD:  The Telangana Handlooms and Textiles Minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) has requested the Central government to give adequate money for bolstering the handlooms sector in the state just a few weeks ahead of the Union Budget 2023–24.

He said that this is the final full budget of the current Central government and that a vote on account budget will be followed while pointing out that the Center did not provide financial support for the various ground-breaking initiatives undertaken by the state government for weavers over the course of the previous eight years.

KTR, went on to say that the Center had disregarded the State government's repeated requests to bolster the sector. He urged that the Central Government, which is led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, must demonstrate its dedication to the textile industry and weavers.

The state government is establishing Kakatiya Mega Textiles Park in Warangal, he said, adding that the largest textile park in India is luring investments from national and international companies. This is done in recognition of the importance of infrastructure to usher rapid progress of the handlooms sector.

According to KTR, the Center has the option to provide financial support for the park, which is being established with Rs 1,600 crore, under various schemes.

In the forthcoming budget, he recommended allocating at least Rs 900 crore for the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park's infrastructure as well as other initiatives.
