HYDERABAD: M. Malla Reddy, the Telangana Labour Minister, was unharmed after his convoy was attacked by attendees at a public gathering in Ghatkesar, close here, sources said on Monday.

Some attendees at a gathering organised by Reddy Jagruthi, an apolitical community platform, hurled shoes, stones, and chairs at the minister's convoy, forcing him to leave the meeting early. Police had a difficult time taking the minister to safety and prevented those pursuing his vehicle.

When praising the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for various development and welfare programmes undertaken in the state, the minister had to face the wrath of some participants at 'Reddy Simha Garjana.'

They chanted slogans in response to the minister's appreciation for the government. Some of them went up to the dais and demanded that he end his speech. A Congressman urged him to quit praising the government and instead speak about what the government plans to do for the community's betterment.

Malla Reddy interrupted his lecture amid the commotion and resumed it after the order was restored following an appeal by the organisers. However, as he proceeded to support the administration, the audience booed him and chanted anti-government slogans. They were enraged this time and refused to listen to the pleas for calm.
