Hyderabad: A clash between two sides over the installation of a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Bodhan in Nizamabad district of Telangana on Sunday (March 20, 2022) has been reported. The BJP has accused AIMIM workers of pelting stones. It is being told that after seeing the statue of Shivaji Maharaj in the area, people of the Muslim community are opposing it and are openly threatening to spoil the atmosphere. Police have imposed Section 144 in the area in view of the rising tension.

BJP General Secretary Vishnu Vardhan Reddy tweeted in this regard, "The sad state of secularism in Telangana. AIMIM activists pelted stones at those who wanted to install a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji in the area. The ruling party TRS is also indirectly siding with them. Nizamabad CP KR Nagaraju said that even after not getting the approval from the collector, people tried to install Shivaji's statue and create ruckus and this created an atmosphere of tension in the area. BJP president Bandi Sanjay said that Hindus have permission to install this statue. "Six months ago, the municipal council had passed a resolution to install a statue of Shivaji (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj) at Bodhan. According to the resolution, if the statue was installed, why this protest?'

He further said, "It is just stupid to pelt stones. The same thing happened in Buffalo as it has happened in Bodhan. Expressing displeasure with the state police, he asked, "Where do they think Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj came from, Pakistan or Bangladesh?" He asked for a clear reason why the state police are preventing him from installing the statue in the area. The BJP state president has clearly spoken about supporting Hindus in the matter.

In this case, the police commissioner says that the statue of Shivaji Maharaj was brought in the night, due to which there was a commotion. Many people took to the streets and claimed that it had hurt their sentiments. When they pelted stones, the police in response imposed Section 144 in the area by resorting to lathi-charge.
