Heavy rains have been lashing Telangana since Sunday afternoon, bringing alive several streams and rivulets. Very heavy rain occurred at isolated places in Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Warangal Rural, and Karimnagar districts while a few places in Nizamabad, Siddipet, Warangal Urban, Mahabubabad, Rajanna-Sircilla, Nagarkurnool, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Nirmal and Hyderabad districts witnessed heavy rain over the past 36 hours.

Due to the continuous downpour, several streams and rivulets were in spate resulting in good inflows into water bodies like tanks and lakes. Road connectivity to several remote villages was snapped in the erstwhile districts of Adilabad, Warangal and Khammam due to the overflowing streams and rivulets. The State as on Sunday witnessed rainfall of 512.5 mm against the normal of 439.8 mm, resulting in an excess of 17 percent. As per the Indian Meteorological Department at 8.30 am on Monday, the highest rainfall of 19 cm was recorded at Navipet in Nizamabad district in the last 24 hours. Similarly, a rainfall of 14 cm each was recorded at Ranjal in Nizamabad district and Jukkal in Kamareddy district.

During the day till 7 pm on Monday, the Telangana State Development Planning Society reported the highest rainfall of 7.3 cm in Laxmidevipeta of Mulugu district, followed by 6.55 cm in Bornapalli of Karimnagar district. Siddipet, Medak and Sanagreddy districts experienced heavy to moderate rains during the past 24 hours. The skies, which have remained cloudy for the past a couple of days, burst into showers for several hours.
