Militants want to attack Temples in J&K, arrested terrorists unveil secrets

Srinagar: At least 16 suspected terrorists have been arrested from Jammu and Kashmir in the last few months. A large number of arms and ammunition have been recovered from them. At the same time, they had three drone drops and several intelligence inputs. After which security agencies suspect that Pakistan-backed terrorist groups are planning to target either temples or Hindu-dominated areas in an attempt to create communal tension in Jammu areas.

On February 6, Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested Hidayatullah Malik alias Hasnain, an alleged operator of Lashkar-e-Mustafa outfit belonging to terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad, from Kunjawani Chowk in Jammu and recovered two pistols and a grenade from his possession. Six of his accomplices were later arrested. According to sources, interrogation of the accused revealed that the group was entrusted with the responsibility of targeting any major temple in Jammu.

On February 13, police said they had busted a module of the Al Badr outfit, which was trying to IED timers at the Jammu bus stand. Four operatives and overground workers were arrested. On April 14, police arrested Aqib Bashir Pare alias Asadullah, a resident of Kupwara on the outskirts of Jammu city and the alleged Islamic State in Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK) operator. Police claimed he was in the area to strengthen the organization's network and carry out attacks targeting civilians.
