Srinagar: An encounter between security forces and terrorists took place on Saturday in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the police, the security forces carried out a search operation in Likhadipura area of Kulgam in South Kashmir after receiving intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area.

He told that while the security force was searching in the area, during this time, the hidden terrorists fired on them. The officer said security forces also opened fire in retaliation. The cordon and search operation, which started in Likhadipura in Kulgam this afternoon, turned into an encounter when hidden terrorist opened fire on the search party on joint security forces. On a specific input about the presence of terrorists in apple orchards of Likhadipura area of Kulgam, which is on the Shopian-Kulgam border, a joint team of police, 34 RR and CRPF army, started cordon-and-search campaign.

He said that the terrorists were first asked to surrender, but they refused and opened fire on the security forces. An encounter started when the joint team was retaliated.
