Srinagar: Three persons, including 2 policemen, were injured in a grenade attack on security forces in the Saraf Kadal area of Jammu and Kashmir's capital Srinagar on Thursday. "The terrorists hurled a grenade at a security forces vehicle at Saraf Kadal in the old city at around 9.20 pm," the officials said. He said two policemen and a civilian were injured in the case. Officials said the injured were taken to a hospital where their condition is stated to be stable.

Earlier, subedar Ram Singh, a junior chief officer of the Army, was killed in a fierce encounter with terror militants in Rajouri on Thursday and one terrorist was also killed. Defense Public Relations Officer (Jammu) Lt Col Devendra Anand said that based on the confirmed Tahrir, the army and police launched a search operation at Dana village in the Thanamandi area on Thursday morning. He said that during the operation, a team led by Subedar Ram Singh was fired on by terrorists hiding in the dense forests nearby.

The same officer said JCO retaliated immediately in which one terrorist was killed and Subedar Ram Singh was also injured in the firing. He said Singh was given first aid immediately and admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment but his life could not be saved. Lt Col Anand said Singh (46) hailed from Salana village in Pauri Garhwal district in Uttarakhand.
