A Tesla Cybertruck packed with fuel canisters and firework mortars exploded outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, prompting an extensive investigation by local authorities and federal agencies. The explosion, which occurred at 8:40 AM PT (15:40 GMT), claimed the life of the driver and left seven others with minor injuries.

The truck, rented in Colorado, arrived in Las Vegas just hours before the incident. It was parked near a glass entrance of the hotel when smoke began to billow from the vehicle, followed by a massive explosion.

Dramatic Scenes Captured

Footage presented by Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill at a press conference showcased the shocking moment. The Cybertruck was seen stationary for several seconds before bursting into colorful fireworks that scattered in all directions. The aftermath revealed charred remnants of the vehicle, fuel canisters, and fireworks scattered across the scene.

Emergency responders acted swiftly to extinguish the fire, while the hotel was evacuated as a precaution. Most guests were relocated to nearby accommodations.

Potential Links to Other Incidents

The explosion occurred hours after a truck attack in New Orleans that left 15 people dead and several injured. Authorities are examining whether there is any connection between the two events.

Sheriff McMahill highlighted the unusual circumstances, noting, "A Cybertruck parked outside the Trump Hotel raises many questions. We’re exploring all possibilities, including links to New Orleans and whether this incident is related to President-elect Donald Trump or Elon Musk, who owns Tesla."

The FBI is also investigating potential terrorism angles but has not confirmed any connections to the Islamic State (IS) group or other organizations. FBI Special Agent Jeremy Schwartz emphasized, "At this point, we’re working to determine whether this qualifies as an act of terrorism."

Vehicle Rental Under Scrutiny

Both vehicles involved in the Las Vegas and New Orleans incidents were reportedly rented through Turo, an app-based car rental service. A Turo spokesperson stated that the company is fully cooperating with the investigations and noted that neither renter had a criminal background that might have flagged them as security risks.

Statements from Officials and Witnesses

President Joe Biden addressed the nation, confirming that the intelligence community is monitoring the situation.
Eric Trump, son of President-elect Donald Trump, expressed gratitude to first responders in a social media post, ensuring the safety of hotel guests and staff remained the top priority.
Stephen Ferlando, a guest at the Trump Hotel, recounted his experience from the 53rd floor. "There was definitely an explosion. The windows shook violently," he told reporters.

Investigations Continue

Authorities are working to identify the driver and determine a motive behind the incident. While no immediate threat to the Las Vegas community remains, the situation has heightened security concerns.  The Trump Hotel, a 64-story luxury property, is partially owned by President-elect Donald Trump, who recently appointed Elon Musk to a presidential advisory commission.
