New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has written letter to the party's central election authority chairman Madhusudan Mistry seeking the publication of electoral rolls for the forthcoming election to the post of All India Congress Committee's (AICC) president.
According to sources cited by news agency PTI on Friday, Assam MP Pradyut Bordoloi has also written to Mistry asking him to make the electoral rolls public. Their letters come at a time when voices asking for the publication of the electors' list are being raised causing a debate within the party.
Shashi Tharoor, a member of parliament from Thiruvananthapuram, is contemplating running for president of Congress. According to reports, he requested disclosure of the election rolls in a letter to Mistry. There will be 10 delegates from the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) who will recommend the candidates.
They said the senior leader contended that it is significant to know about these delegates as papers can get rejected if their names are not included in the final list.
To ensure openness, Manish Tewari and Karti Chidambaram urged on Wednesday that the election registers be made public.
Tewari voiced concerns over the party's decision to withhold the identities of electors for the party president elections. Tewari is one of the "G-23" leaders, along with Tharoor, who are pushing for significant party reforms. For an "open and fair" procedure, he claimed that it must be posted on the website of the All India Congress Committee.
