THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Shashi Tharoor, a senior Congress leader and member of parliament for Thiruvananthapuram, has requested a probe into allegations that the Youth Congress (YC) in Kozhikode cancelled a lecture for which it had invited him.

According to reports, the Jawahar Youth Foundation has been tasked with organising the conference themed "Sangh Parivar and the Challenges Faced by Indian Secularism."

M.K. Raghavan, a Kozhikode MP, has backed Tharoor's proposal and said that he will complain to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi about it. Raghavan also urged K. Sudhakaran, the state congress president, to form an investigation committee to look into why the Kozhikode district committee of the Youth Congress decided not to attend Tharoor's seminar.

Raghavan has the right to intercede in the situation, said Tharoor, and demand information from the Congress leadership on why the district committee of the Youth Congress decided not to attend his seminar. Raghavan is the MP for Kozhikode.

Raghavan added that for Kerala Congress to reenter state politics, Tharoor must be presented as the party's leader.
No one can eliminate Tharoor from Kerala politics, said senior Congress leader K. Muraleedharan, an MP from the Kozhikode district's Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency.

Many believe that Tharoor's recent tour of northern Kerala, where he is giving seminars at several locations, is an effort on his part to establish himself among the educated middle class and the Muslim population with the help of the Indian Union Muslim League.

In northern Kerala, Raghavan is fecilitating his excursions.
