Recently Bhuban Gam has been nominated as the Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate for the Majuli (ST) Assembly by-election.

There has been confusion and constant discussion over the last few days over who would be the next BJP candidate for the Majuli constituency, after former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal resigned from the seat after being recruited into Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet. Former Chie Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is known to be close friends with Gam.

On March 7, a by-election for the 99-Majuli (ST) Legislative Assembly Constituency will be held. On Thursday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued a formal notification for the by-election in the Majuli (ST) Constituency.

The deadline to submit nominations is February 17th. According to an ECI statement, the nominations will be evaluated on February 18, 2022, with the time for withdrawal set for February 21.
