Painful: Car rams into devotees on way to Pandharpur

Solapur: A group of devotees on their way to the popular Pandharpur pilgrimage site in Maharashtra met with an accident. A speeding car overturned crushing them. 7 devotees including 5 women and a child died in the accident. At the same time, 7 seriously injured persons are undergoing treatment in the hospital. The police officers who reached the spot started the investigation by taking the driver of the car into custody. According to the police, the accident happened around 7 pm. The devotees who were victims of the accident were going from Jatharwadi to Pandharpur on foot for Kartiki Yatra. 32 people had left in a group for the journey. All these devotees had reached Junoni in Sangola taluka of Solapur when the speeding Tata Nexon car coming from the front directly entered the devotees. A total of 14 people came under the car, out of which 7 died. 

According to the police, as soon as the news of the incident was received, Police Inspector Anant Kulkarni of Sangola police station reached the spot and sent the injured persons for treatment. The post-mortem of the dead devotees is being done. The criminal car driver is a resident of Sonand village of Sangola taluka. 

CM Eknath Shinde has expressed grief over the same accident. He has also announced an immediate relief of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of those killed in the accident. The Chief Minister has also directed for an immediate inquiry into the accident. Recently, there was a horrific road accident in Maharashtra's Jalna city on October 17. Here the truck hit the auto-rickshaw. 5 persons died in the incident. The accident took place near Mohra village on the Bhokardhan Jaffrabad road in Jalna, Maharashtra. The truck collided with an auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite side.
