Guwahati :The Cattle Protection Bill passed in the Assam Legislative Assembly on August 13 has been passed. The bill was passed by voice vote in the state assembly. Meanwhile, a chaotic situation prevailed within the Assam Legislative Assembly over the Cattle Protection Bill as the leaders of the opposition party did not agree to pass the bill.

"As per the statistics, there are 19.327 crore cows in Assam. Cows are not endangered animals, why are laws being sought for conservation?" Questioned AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam. Aminul Islam said that the matter has been looked at only from religious point of view. According to documents and statements provided by Aminul Islam, farmers of Assam have created an economy of Rs 20,000 crore annually with the help of cows. But with this bill the economy fell to Rs. 1 crore. Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that the Assam government has introduced the Assam Cattle Protection Bill, 2021 in the state assembly to protect and protect cows from slaughter in the state.

As per the new law, a person will be punished with imprisonment of up to eight years and a fine of Rs 8 lakh and for the subsequent offence, the punishment will be double. In addition, the Assam government has proposed artificial insemination on the basis of gender to ensure higher production of cows as compared to bullocks. “The use of sex-sorted semen will increase the number of high genetic female calves produced in cattle and buffalo farms. This will control the birth of scrub bulls as 80 to 90 percent of all births will be female calves.
