Director, choreographer and actor Guru Dutt is known as the Orson Wells of India. His real name was Vasant Kumar Shivshankar Padukone. Guru Dutt started his film career in 1944 by playing a small role in the movie Chand. On October 10, 1964, Guru Dutt was found dead in a mysterious state in his bed in Mumbai. According to media reports, he had committed suicide after battling alcoholism for a long time. But how he died is still a secret. Guru Dutt and Geeta Roy tied the knot in 1953. Both of them had a very happy life. Suddenly, while becoming 'thirsty,' distance between Geeta and him started increasing. The reason was his growing closeness to his own heroine Waheeda Rahman. The suspicion between the two escalated to such an extent that one day Guru Dutt received a letter. It said, 'I can't live without you. If you want me, come to Nariman point to meet me at 6.30 p.m. this evening. Your Waheeda.'

When Guru Dutt showed the letter to his friend Abrar, he said, "I don't think Waheeda has written this letter." Both of them had planned to find out the secret of the letter. Abrar reached Nariman Point in his Fiat car and parked his car in a street near CCI. He noticed that Geeta Dutt and her friend Smriti Biswas were trying to see someone sitting in the back seat of a car. Guru Dutt was also watching the scene from a nearby building. On reaching home, the two had a heated argument over the issue and the conversation between the two stopped. According to media reports, Guru Dutt was under the influence of alcohol when his friend Abrar Alvi visited him on October 9. During this time, he had a phone fight with Geeta Dutt. He wanted to meet his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter and Geeta was not ready to send her to him. Guru Dutt gave him an ultimatum while he was drunk, 'Send the daughter or you will see my dead body.' The two had dinner at 1 pm and then Abrar had left for his home. The next afternoon, he received a call that Guru Dutt's health deteriorated.

When he reached his house, he saw Guru Dutt sleeping on the bed wearing kurta-pyjamas. A glass was placed on the table near the bed with a pink liquid still a little left. Guru Dutt handed himself over to death as he came out of Abrar's mouth. People asked how do you know? Abrar knew because he and Guru Dutt often talked about ways to die. It was Guru Dutt who had said to him, 'Sleeping pills should be taken as a mother feeds her child pills... Grind and then dissolve it in water and drink it.' Abrar later said that we were jokingly lying down at the time. I didn't know that Guru Dutt would test this joke on his own.
