Bhubaneswar: The number of infected people in Odisha has increased to 10,47,174 after 171 new cases of coronavirus were reported on Monday. The new 171 cases include 34 children. The death toll from the infection has risen to 8,394 after the death of another person.

A health department official has said that after a week, the daily case in the state is less than 200 but the increasing figure of patients infected with covid is alarming. The state has seen 205 cases on Sunday, 239 on Saturday, 242 on Friday, 229 on Thursday, 226 on Wednesday, and 206 on Tuesday. The infection rate in the state is 19.88 per cent among people aged 18 years from newborns. Out of the new 171 cases, the highest number of 76 cases were reported in Bhubaneswar, then 12 in Sambalpur and 10 in Cuttack. Meanwhile, another patient lost his life in Balasore.

The official said 2,226 people are currently being exposed to covid virus infection in the state. The number of people who were infection-free rose to 10,36,501 after 271 more people recovered on Sunday. More than 2.32 crore samples have also been tested for Covid-19 in Odisha so far and the infection rate is 4.49 per cent. According to data from the Department of Health and Family Welfare, more than 1.43 crore people in the state have so far been given both doses of corona anti-virus vaccines.
