Tirupati: Apart from giving limited doses on a day-to-day basis, several mega immunization campaigns had given the much needed impetus to the campaign. About 24 lakh doses have been vaccinated. Out of this, about 17 lakh first dose and seven lakh second dose were given. Since most of the people from different priority groups have already been covered, now the authorities have focused on immunization in the age group of 18-44 years. While this process has already started in urban areas, in rural areas also it will be started in a day or two.

According to Dr C Hanumantha Rao, they are expecting a dose of the vaccine to arrive on Monday, which will probably be given to people above 18 years of age from Tuesday. 15.45 lakh people are in the age group of 18-44 years, which will be covered in a phased manner. Till now, 6.15 lakh people in the age group above 60 years took their shots, of which 39 lakh took their first dose, while the rest got the second shot as well. Similarly, around 6.73 lakh people in the age group of 45-59 years took the first dose, while 2.80 lakh of them took their second dose as well.

Only about 4,000 had to take a second dose. Of the 1.08 lakh doses given to frontline workers, about 86,000 received a second dose. The DIO said that since the vaccination program has been started for the above 18 group, so far 4.50 lakh people have benefited from it, while 55,000 of them have been given second dose. Vaccination of pregnant women and mothers with children 0-5 years is going on in the foreign going category as well.
