INS Dega is a naval air station of the Indian Navy. It is located on the east coast of India in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The Indian Navy initially began aviation operations in the late 1970s with the construction of four helipads adjacent to the civilian airfield at Visakhapatnam. Civil Visakhapatnam Airport was transferred to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in 1981. The air station was then called Naval Air Station, Visakhapatnam. Additional hangars, maintenance facilities and an operations complex were built soon thereafter.

On 21 October 1991, the airport was renamed and formally commissioned as INS Dega by the then Vice Admiral Laxminarayan Ramdas. It is named for a Telugu language word for a large and powerful bird of the eagle family.
