New Delhi: In India, Citroen's lineup of C3 vehicles now includes the "PureTech 110" turbo-petrol engine. The 'Gen III' engine is back this time, and it's available in the Shine trim, which is the top of the line. The top-spec model has been more expensive than the base Live trim due to all the bells and whistles available. What alternative makes more sense here in the United States?

In India, Citroen introduced the C3 micro-SUV into the fiercely competitive entry-level SUV market. The car received praise from critics for its ride and handling abilities but criticism for lacking some desirable features like electrically-adjustable ORVMs, a rear washer and wiper unit, and a rear-view camera. By introducing a range-topping Shine variant, the company has now addressed the shortcomings.

Despite having a similar overall design, the Citroen C3 Shine trim has a better appearance. An electrically adjustable ORVM, black roof rails, 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a chromed "Double Chevron" logo, skid plates, front fog lamps, black wheel cladding, and a rear washer and wiper unit are just a few of the niceties that the former has over the latter. Additionally, the top trim receives two-tone paint jobs.

A day-night IVRM, premium fabric upholstery, an anodized Orange/Grey dashboard panel, rear AC vents, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, USB charging ports, keyless entry, and numerous connected car features using Citroen's C-Buddy app are also included in the top-tier Shine variant. It features an infotainment system with a 10.0-inch touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Citroen C3 has dual airbags, ABS, and EBD as standard across all variants for increased safety.

Over the base Live model, the Shine trim level adds features like the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Hill-hold Assist, and Rear Parking Assist System with a rearview camera and two ultrasonic sensors.

The top-of-the-line Shine variant also includes the "PureTech 110" turbo-petrol engine, which produces 110hp/190Nm. This contrasts with the base Live trim's inclusion of only the "PureTech 82" 1.2-liter, naturally-aspirated, petrol engine that produces 82hp/115Nm. The former has a 6-speed manual gearbox, whereas the latter has a 5-speed manual.

The starting price for the base Citroen C3 Live variant in India is Rs. 6.16 lakh, while the sticker price for the top-of-the-line Shine Turbo Dual-Tone with Vibe pack model is Rs. 8.92 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). Typically, the customer's budget determines which variant they choose. However, because it offers better value for money, we suggest going with the top trim.
