Balangir: A shocking incident has come to light from the Balangir district of Odisha. A Class 9 student was seriously injured after a spear pierced his neck during the annual sports meet of a government school here, police said on Sunday. The victim was rushed to the hospital. At present, his condition is said to be out of danger.

During a practice session at Agalpur Boys Panchayat High School, a student threw a spear, which crossed the left side of the neck of Sadanand Mehar, a student standing nearby. The injured was rushed to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir, where doctors pulled him out safely. However, Meher is now admitted to the ICU of the hospital.  

Collector (DM) Chanchal Rana said that a sports meet was organized in the school and it became an unfortunate incident. We are relieved to know that the child's condition is now out of danger. The district magistrate has ordered immediate assistance of Rs 30,000 to the family of the student. On the other hand, CM Naveen Patnaik has also directed that the injured student should be provided better treatment and the necessary funds for this will be given from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. Talking about the accident, the child's uncle Achyutanand Meher said, "We had received news about this from the school authorities. Then, we reached the hospital. At the same time, after this accident, the sports competition in the school has been postponed.''
