HYDERABAD: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, 945 additional posts in various departments at the behest of the irrigation department was set up by the state government on Tuesday issued orders for the reform of the administrative structure. In addition, the government has sanctioned Rs 320 crore for the construction of new buildings for the newly created regional offices of 19 chief engineers.

According to the directives, the 19 Regional Courts will be headed by Chief Engineers (CES) and the Engineer-in-Chiefs (ENC) will oversee the entire operations. The three ENCs will head the General, Administration, and Operations and Maintenance divisions, while the three CES will be deployed at the state headquarters in Hyderabad. The new orders will take effect from January 1.

In addition to efficient operations and management, the financial powers of officers for emergency work have also been improved. Subsequently, officers below the ENC rank will be empowered to approve works ranging from Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 lakh, depending on the official rank. For this, Rs 280 crore has been allocated in the annual budget.

The government has sanctioned Rs 320 crore for the construction of permanent offices for 11 CEs and 20 superintending engineers with residential houses, vehicles and other necessities. About Rs 2.2 crore per annum has been sanctioned for setting up of temporary offices including furniture. In addition, the establishment of 945 additional posts will result in an additional annual expenditure of Rs 60 crore for salaries and other operating expenses of the State Government. Permits have been granted to phase out the required staff in the newly created offices.
