After monkeypox alarm bells rang across the world, the virus has now reached India as well. A person who recently returned from abroad has been found to have symptoms of monkeypox and has been kept in the isolation ward of the hospital. Blood tests of this person have been done and the case is under investigation. The Health Ministry has started contact tracing of people who came in contact with the suspected patient. The ministry has said that India is fully prepared to deal with monkeypox, but it is important for the public to be aware of its symptoms and prevention methods.

What is monkeypox and its symptoms

Monkeypox is a disease caused by a virus called the monkeypox virus. This virus spreads from animals to humans. The WHO declared monkeypox a global health emergency on August 14 and many cases have been reported in the US and Europe. A person infected with monkeypox experiences high fever, headache, muscle pain, fatigue and weakness. Rashes and red spots also appear on the body, which later become filled with water.

Monkeypox Vaccine

The risk of monkeypox can be reduced through vaccine. Monkeypox vaccine JYNNEOS is available in foreign markets, which has proved helpful in controlling monkeypox in Europe and America. This vaccine is applied in the arm and its two doses are given at an interval of 28 days. This vaccine increases immunity in the body and reduces the chances of getting infected with the virus. The immunity process starts in the body after the first dose. If you are traveling to an area where monkeypox is spread, then this vaccine is recommended. People who have already had monkeypox are not advised to get vaccinated. If a person has come in contact with a person infected with monkeypox, he should get vaccinated as soon as possible.
