UK: The Eurovision Song Contest 2019 will be held in the UK by Ukraine, which won the contest in May.

The winner usually hosts the competition the following year. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the organization behind the broadcast, announced last month that it could not take place in Ukraine due to that country's conflict with Russia. Since Britain finished second this year, the EBU and the BBC started talks.

"We are extraordinarily grateful that the BBC has accepted to stage the Eurovision Song Contest in the UK in 2023," Eurovision Song Contest executive producer Martin Sterdal said in a statement on Monday.

“The BBC has previously served as host broadcaster for the other winning countries four times. We are confident that the competition will showcase the talent and creativity of one of Europe's most experienced public broadcasters, while ensuring that this year's Winners Ukraine are honored and represented throughout the event in keeping with this tradition of solidarity.

He continued, “I am confident that together we will be able to embody the Ukrainian spirit in this event and once again bring the whole of Europe together around our shared values of peace, support, celebrating diversity and talent.

This year's Eurovision, the longest-running televised music competition in the world, was won by Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra in Turin, Italy, thanks to a strong outpouring of public support. Britain's Sam Ryder was at number two.

The BBC will now begin its search for a city to host the event next year. It added that potential applicants must demonstrate that they have the required facilities and undergo a bidding process. Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle, Birmingham, Aberdeen, London, Brighton, Belfast and Cardiff may also participate in the race. Glasgow and Manchester have also shown interest.

Millions of people come to watch the Eurovision final each year, and it also serves as a platform for the host city to market itself.
