During the UNSC meeting of the Anti-Terrorism Committee at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai on Friday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, referring to the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, said that the meeting at the Hotel Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai is very important. At that time the entire city of Mumbai was taken hostage and common Mumbaikars were also among the victims. He said that, 14 years ago, Mumbai witnessed one of the most shocking terrorist attacks of our time. 140 Indian nationals and 26 foreign nationals lost their lives in this attack. In fact, the entire city was taken hostage by the terrorists who entered India from across the border.
Jaishankar further said that the attack was not only on Mumbai but on the international community. Jaishankar said that before the terrorist attack, citizens of specific countries were identified and through the terrorist attack the countries of the whole world were publicly challenged. The Foreign Minister said that 'Since then, we have tried to bring the mastermind and perpetrators of this attack to an arbiter. This work is still incomplete. Therefore, the coming together of the UNSC Anti-Terrorism Committee at this venue is all the more special and important.'
