Ahmedabad: India has signed a major agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding traditional medicine. Ministry of AYUSH has signed agreement with WHO for setting up of WHO Global Center for Traditional Medicine in India at Jamnagar, Gujarat yesterday. Enthused by this agreement, PM Narendra Modi said that this WHO center will go a long way in increasing well-being in our society.

 

Tagging the Twitter handle of WHO, PM Modi said that 'India's traditional medicines and health systems are very popular globally. This WHO center will go a long way in increasing well-being in our society. Earlier, Ministry of AYUSH yesterday signed Host Country Agreement with WHO for setting up of WHO Global Center for Traditional Medicine in the country at Jamnagar, Gujarat, whose interim office is The Institute of Training and Research in Gujarat. These are located in Ayurveda.

 

The Ministry of AYUSH also stated that the primary objective of GCTM is to harness the potential of traditional medicine from all over the world through modern science and technology, and to improve the overall health of communities around the world. Regarding the agreement, WHO tweeted on Friday, saying that the WHO and the Government of India have agreed to establish the WHO Global Center for Traditional Medicine to maximize the potential of traditional medicines through modern science and technology.
