In a video chat with us, Prashant spoke about his COVID-19 ordeal, and his take on the changing content in films and more. Excerpts… Prashant, who is still in recovery, says, “I still don’t have the energy that I had before I had COVID. It takes at least three to six months to regain one’s stamina. Honestly, I didn’t expect to get infected. In fact, during the first wave, I worked extensively as a COVID warrior. I was going around doing my bit for those in need. In the second wave, I was busy with my work commitment and was mostly at home, writing a script. Yet, despite all the precautionary measures, I tested positive, which came as quite a shock to my family. What made it worse is that I neglected it initially and sought medical attention only when it got worse, so much so that I was even put on ventilator for some days. COVID-19 has taught me what needs to be prioritised in life. Fortunately, except me and my brother, no one else in the family tested positive.”
For showbiz, the pandemic has been a period of learning and taking stock of changing content consumption patterns, says Prashant, adding, “The dynamics of the film industry has changed because of the onslaught of OTT, as people are exposed to a wide variety of content. In a way, OTT platforms have expanded the film market. The need of the hour is to provide fresh content. Having said that, the theatre experience will never go out of our country, as the joy of watching on a big screen is indescribable. Theatres will continue to thrive and should be back to normal functioning by the end of this year.”
