Election Commission's big statement: There should not be any restriction on media reporting

The Election Commission, after the recent remarks of the Supreme Court, clarified the position relating to the media and said that the Commission has always believed in independent media. The Election Commission said that all its members accept the positive role of the media in strengthening electoral democracy in the country. The Supreme Court, while hearing the Election Commission's plea on Monday, had said that the media is an important and powerful watchdog in a democracy and cannot be prevented from reporting discussions in the High Court.

 

 

Releasing the press release, the Election Commission said that the Commission believes that the media has played an important role in the conduct of earlier or current elections. The statement said, the Election Commission has taken cognizance of the recent narrative regarding its position in connection with the media. According to the statement, "The election was fully agreed before the Supreme Court that there should be no ban on media reporting".

According to the Election Commission- The Commission respects the character of the media for strengthening election management and transparent coverage from campaigning, polling station level to counting from the beginning to the end of the election process. The Election Commission's stand on cooperation with the media is friendly and will always be so. The Election Commission had moved the Supreme Court against the madras high court's critical remarks, blaming it "alone" for spreading the second wave of corona infection.
