Kochi: The number of monkeypox patients in India has increased again. Kerala has reported the third case in the country. The man was reportedly returned to India from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). At the moment, he has been admitted to the hospital. The special thing is that all the three patients who have fallen prey to this disease have come out from Kerala. The central and state governments have been put on alert amidst the rising number of cases. A high-level team was sent to Kerala recently.
Kerala Health Minister Veena George has informed that the infection has been confirmed in the 35-year-old man. He said the man had returned to Mallapuram from UAE. He was admitted to the hospital on July 13 after a fever. After this, the symptoms started showing on July 15. The first case in India was reported from Kerala on July 14. During that time also, the man had returned to India after travelling from the UAE. After this, the second case of monkeypox was detected in the country on July 18. The 31-year-old patient is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Veena George had said on Tuesday that the testing of monkeypox has been started at NIV Alappuzha in Kerala. She said "Testing has already started at NIV Alappuzha. Kits have been brought from Pune to NIV Alappuzha. Samples from the districts are being sent to Alappuzha for testing.'' She said, "A new disease has emerged in the state. After this, all the tests are being done with caution. Testing in Kerala will take less time for results to come.''
