Dehradun: Eight persons were arrested for allegedly offering prayers in a public place in Haridwar's Shivalik Nagar on Thursday. All are accused of offering prayers in the middle of a crowded market. All eight people were arrested under section 151. Police said that permission was not taken for this and all of them were produced in the court for the further judicial process from where all of them got bail from the Magistrate (SDM) court.

Superintendent of Police (City) Swatantra Kumar said, "We received a secret complaint late on Thursday evening that some people were offering namaz in the weekly market. These included Nizam (22), Naseem (52), Sajjad Ahmed (50), Mursalin (38), Ashraf (45), Asgar (37), Mustafa (35) and Ikram (47). All were arrested from Shivalik Nagar.'' The Superintendent of Police said that after being produced in the SDM's court, all of them received a warning and were granted bail.

It is worth noting that recently there was a ruckus in Lucknow's Lulu Mall over offering prayers. The four men who offered prayers at the mall were arrested. In Lucknow, the four youths, who live in the same locality, had gone together to Lulu Mall and offered prayers. The four arrested youths turned out to be brothers from Sitapur. The four youths who have disturbed the atmosphere by offering prayers at Lulu Mall have been identified as Mohammed Rehan, Atif Khan, Mohammad Lukman and Mohammad Noman, both residents of Khurram Nagar under Indiranagar police station. Lukman and Noman are cousins and both are residents of Sitapur.
