New Delhi: Our perceptions of mathematics sometimes cost girls a lot. Especially by teachers and mothers, to say that boys are very skilled in mathematics. Boys benefit from such gender bias over mathematics. This has been revealed in research by the State Examination Commission of Ireland.

The research is based exclusively on the assessment of the performance of 9-year-olds in mathematics. 8500 9-year-olds have been involved in the research. The research says that achievements in this area are seen as indicators of boys' natural potential. Research points out that like many other countries, Ireland has a more positive outlook on mathematics and its achievements than boys, girls. While girls underestimate their performance in mathematics as compared to boys.  Especially by teachers and mothers. The research also says that mothers and teachers are 1.3 and 1.5 times more likely to evaluate boys as excellent or above average in mathematics than girls.

Therefore, National Mathematics Day is celebrated in memory of the great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan who was born on December 22, 1887. Ramanujan's birthday was declared as Mathematics Day by the India Government to honour his achievements. It was announced by former PM Manmohan Singh on February 26, 2012, at the opening ceremony of the 125th anniversary of the birth of Srinivasa Ramanujan.
