Patna: Singer Maithili Thakur from Bihar, who is known for her contribution to folk music, has been made the brand ambassador of khadi and Handicrafts of the state. Officers have given this news. On Tuesday, 22-year-old Maithili, who was recently selected for the Sangeet Natak Akademi's prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, was handed over a letter in this regard by the industries department at an event here. The Bihar State Khadi Village Industries Board comes under the Industries Department of the Government of Bihar.

Recently Maithili was selected for the Ustad Bismillah Khan Youth Award for 2021. The Sangeet Natak Akademi, National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama in its general council meeting earlier this month had selected 102 young artists from across the country for the 2019 to 2021 awards to make their mark in their respective fields of performing arts.

Born in Benipatti in the Madhubani district of Bihar, Maithili has been trained by her father and grandfather in Maithilfolk music besides Hindustani classical music. She has showcased her talent especially in singing folk songs in Maithili, Bhojpuri, and Hindi. Along with her two brothers Rishav and Ayachi, she has performed at various national and international festivals.
