A case of rape of a minor girl against Indian hockey team defender Varun Kumar has been taken up for hearing. The victim girl has also filed a case in this regard at Gyanbharti police station in Bangalore. It has been alleged that Varun Kumar came in contact with her about 5 years ago and then raped her on the pretext of marriage. The victim herself is a volleyball player and was busy practicing while staying in a hostel at the time of the incident. The police have registered a case under sections of rape and POCSO Act and have started investigating the case.
In the complaint given to the police, the victim has said that this incident happened in the year 2016-17. In those days, she was also selected for volleyball by the National Center of Excellence. In such a situation, she was taking training in the South Division of the Sports Authority of India. For this, she used to live in a hostel in the Gyan Bharti police station area. In those days he was introduced to Varun Kumar. This meeting gradually turned into friendship and then into love. In those days, Varun deceived her that soon he would talk to his family and marry her.
Rape on the pretext of marriage: In those days, she was only 17 years old, yet Varun took her on the pretext and raped her several times. The victim has said that in the year 2019, once on the pretext of having food, Varun took her to Jaynagar, where he had physical relations with her. Even when his father died a year ago, he came to his house and consoled him. He has also assured that he will get married soon. But now they have gone back on their promise. However, even after many attempts to repair their relationship, when no success was achieved, the victim lodged a complaint with the police.

He started his career in hockey from Punjab and started playing for the Indian team from the year 2017. Varun was also awarded a silver medal in the Birmingham-Commonwealth Games in the year 2022. He was included in the team that won the gold medal in the Asian Games in the year 2022. Varun had given India a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics in the year 2020. For this achievement, Himachal government had also given him a reward of Rs 1 crore. After this he also received the Arjuna Award in the year 2021.
