Bhubaneswar: In a move aimed at bolstering support ahead of upcoming elections, the Odisha state government announced a significant increase in the minimum wages for workers on Thursday. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik revealed that this wage hike would positively impact millions of workers across various skill categories.

The new minimum wage rates vary depending on the skill level of the workers. For unskilled laborers, the minimum wage has been raised from Rs 352 to Rs 450, marking a substantial increase. Similarly, semi-skilled workers will now receive Rs 500 instead of the previous Rs 392.

Skilled workers are also set to benefit from the wage hike, with their minimum wage increasing to Rs 550 from Rs 442. Moreover, highly skilled laborers will see their minimum wage rise from Rs 502 to Rs 600.

Importantly, both government and private sector workers will enjoy these increased wages, according to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office.

This move is expected to bring relief to workers facing economic challenges and provide them with improved livelihoods. It underscores the government's commitment to addressing the needs of the working class ahead of the upcoming elections.
