With the growing trend of UPI payments, scammers have found new ways to dupe people. Recently a video has gone viral showing how fraudsters are emptying people's bank accounts by posing as bank representatives. In this video, a user has shared on X how the scammer, posing as a bank representative, asks to update the UPI PIN. For this, a link is sent and asked to visit a specific website. After reaching the website, the user is asked to enter the UPI PIN. Although this user recognized this scam earlier and escaped from the fraud, many people fall prey to these tricks and their money is stolen.

How to avoid UPI scam?

1. Do not share passwords and UPI PIN

As per the guidelines of the Reserve Bank of India, never share your password, OTP, UPI PIN, etc. with anyone. No bank or financial institution needs your PIN or password. If anyone asks you to share this information, it could be a scam.

2. Be careful of unknown contacts

To avoid UPI scams, do not open calls, messages or emails from unknown numbers. Also, avoid clicking on links sent on WhatsApp or other messaging apps. These links are often part of fraud and can put your account security at risk.

3. Be careful with payment links

Scammers often send links to accept payments. If you click on such a link, money may be deducted from your account. Apart from this, ignore calls or messages coming from the bank in the name of KYC update, prize money, delivery or courier. This may be the method of scammers who can steal your money by stealing your information.

4. Report suspicious activities

If you think you may be a victim of a scam, immediately inform your bank or financial institution. Apart from this, it is also important to file a complaint with the police so that other people can also avoid this fraud.

5. Monitor the account regularly

Monitor your bank account and UPI transactions regularly. Report any unauthorized transactions immediately. If you notice any suspicious activity, take immediate action. By taking these precautions, you can keep your UPI payments safe and avoid falling into the trap of scammers. It is extremely important to be vigilant to protect your personal information and money.
