Thrashing of Dalit youth row;Anandiben orders CID search

Tuesday; July 19, 2016: Gujarat’s Anandiben Patel government yesterday has introduced a search by the CID into violence against Dalit youth in the Saurashtra region last week.

Eight persons have been arrest following the incident, wherein some miscreants had tied to an SUV and thrashed seven youth from a Dalit community on suspicion of skinning a cow alive.

Four policemen, involving an inspector, have been suspended for dereliction of duty.The authorities has also paid ₹1 lakh each to the victims.

As per the reports said, “Some angry Dalits had threatened to convert to another religion. BSP leader Mayavati had also vociferously raised the issue in Parliament on the opening day of the Monsoon Session”.

State Government in statement said, “A designated court would be set up for a speedy trial, in consultation with the High Court”

It would also nominate a special prosecutor and submit a charge-sheet in 60 days.The government will bear all expenses for the medical treatment of the victims convalescing in hospitals at different hospitals.
