WASHINGTON: Three people were killed in a shooting at a park in the United States of Iowa. It is also reported that the accused gunman was also killed, US  police said in a statement.

As per the statement, police were notified of a triple homicide at the Maquoketa Caves State Park campground in Jackson County at about 6.23 a.m. on Friday, July 22.

Officers found three dead bodies and later discovered that a camper was missing, according to the report. Officers also found Anthony Orlando Sherwin, 23, dead west of the park. Sherwin appeared to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Maquoketa Caves State Park, located northwest of Maquoketa, is closed until further notice, according to police, but there is no danger to the public.

In a statement, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds said she is "horrified by the shooting this morning at Maquoketa Caves State Park and grieved by the loss of three innocent lives." According to the latest Gun Violence Archive data, more than 24,000 people have died as a result of gun violence in the United States this year.
