TikTok Addresses Cyber-Attack Targeting Paris Hilton and More

TikTok is actively responding to a cyber-attack that has affected several high-profile users, including Paris Hilton and CNN, the company confirmed. TikTok, the video-sharing app disclosed to the British Broadcasting Corp that only a "very limited" number of accounts were compromised in the incident. However, TikTok assured users that it is working diligently to restore access to the affected accounts.

Owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, TikTok did not divulge specific details about the cyber-attack, including its method of execution. A spokesperson for TikTok mentioned that while Paris Hilton's account was targeted, it remained uncompromised.

Paris Hilton, a reality TV star with over 10 million followers on TikTok, is known for being an active user of the platform. "We have been collaborating closely with CNN to restore account access and implement enhanced security measures to safeguard their account moving forward," TikTok stated.

"We are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the platform and will continue to monitor for any further inauthentic activity," the spokesperson added.

This incident unfolds as TikTok faces potential prohibition in the United States unless it is divested by its Chinese parent company. Despite having millions of users globally, TikTok has faced scrutiny over the security of user data and its ties to the Beijing government.

Moreover, TikTok is increasingly becoming a battleground for social media in the U.S. presidential elections. Former President Donald Trump recently joined TikTok, amassing over five million followers since launching his account.

In contrast, President Joe Biden has used the platform to campaign for re-election in November, accruing around 350,000 followers - significantly fewer than his political opponent.
