Tirath Singh Rawat will be the new chief minister of Uttarakhand, who was the BJP chief in Uttarakhand from February 9, 2013 to December 31, 2015 and a former member of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly from Chaubttakhal constituency from 2012 to 2017.
The decision was taken at the legislative party meeting of the BJP in Dehradun.
Among top contestants, former chief minister of Uttarakhand, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank (61) is one of the top contenders as replacement for Trivendra Singh Rawat. Apart from serving as chief minister of Uttarakhand, Pokhriyal was also a hill development minister in undivided Uttar Pradesh.
A meeting of Uttarakhand BJP’s legislature party was held at the state party headquarters in Dehradun.
CM Rawat resigned on Tuesday after days of speculation about a leadership change in the state.
Over 50 BJP MLAs reached the party state headquarters in Dehradun on Wednesday along with parliamentarians including Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Ajay Bhatt, Mala Rajya Lakshmi and Naresh Bansal.
