Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has expressed displeasure over the illegally built Trinamool Congress (TMC) office in Jorasanko Thakurbari. Along with this, the High Court has ordered the demolition of the controversial office. A bench of Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice R Bhardwaj on Monday directed the removal of the party office from parts of the heritage building. The High Court has given the Kolkata Municipality a three-week time to implement the directive. The next hearing of the case is scheduled for December 19.

As per the court order, the heritage committee of the university will bring back the old look of Maharishi Bhavan. The Court has ordered that it is the responsibility of the Heritage Department to restore the building in that part to its former condition. After renovation, the office should be identified as a heritage building. Justice said during the hearing that even if there is no heritage building, has anyone gone somewhere and built a party office? If you do not have any possession paper, it will be treated as a non-existent construction. Have any of you used that room? The counsel appearing for the petitioner told the court that the party office is still there. The police should go there and close the office and return the room to Ravindra Bharti.

A few days ago, a portion of 'Jorasanko Thakurbari', the ancestral home of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, was illegally constructed as the office of the Trinamool Shikshabandhu Samiti. According to the information, the room where Rabindranath Tagore and Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay spoke for the first time has been completely revamped. The walls of Maharishi Bhavan, which witnessed the Bengali Renaissance, were painted green. Doors and windows, floors have also been tampered with by the committee related to the ruling TMC.
