Kolkata: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar said on Friday that he has accepted the resignation of TMC leader Suvendu Adhikari from the state cabinet following the recommendation of CM Mamata Banerjee. Dhankhar said on Twitter that the four departments which Suvendu had, will now be handled by the CM herself.

The Governor wrote in tweeting that in view of the recommendation of Honorable CM Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal, the resignation of Minister Suvendu Adhikari has been accepted with immediate effect. Regarding resignation, Trinamool MP Saugata Rai said that during two meetings with the officer, he realized that he did not want to leave the party. We will discuss his displeasure with them. Rai said he hoped to remain in the party, as he did not give his membership or resign as an MLA.

Suvendu Adhikari has been in disputes with the party leadership recently. He was also absent from recent cabinet meetings. He has been the major face of the Nandigram movement that brought Mamata Banerjee to power in 2011. Earlier on Friday morning, the officer sent his resignation to CM Mamata Banerjee and e-mail to Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar. After the resignation, the official tweeted, "I am resigning from my post as a minister." He said, "I have served the people of the state with commitment, dedication and honesty. I thank you for this opportunity."
