TMC overtakes Congress in terms of earnings, BJP retains top spot

New Delhi: The influence of political parties can be measured by the amount of money they get along with the public's faith in them. In this race, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has now overtaken the Congress. Mamata Banerjee's TMC has become the second political party to earn the most money in the year 2021-22. TMC has an income of 545.74 crores in 2021-22, while the annual income of Congress has been Rs 541.27 crores.

In the annual audit report of political parties released by the Election Commission, 8 national parties in India - BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPIM, and the National People's Party (NPP) collectively earned Rs 3,289.28 crore during the year 2021-22. During 2021-22, BJP earned Rs 1917.12 crore, while the total income of 7 national parties other than BJP was Rs 1,372.16 crore. 

Voluntary contributions amounting to Rs 1,775 crore form the biggest chunk of the BJP's total income. Of this, Rs 1,033 crore has been received through electoral bonds. Electoral bonds account for more than 50 percent of the BJP's total income. The BJP has collected Rs 6.31 crore from fees and donations. TMC, which turned 25 this year, earned Rs 545.74 crore in 2021-22. In 2017-18, the income of this party was 5.16 crores. Compared to this year, TMC's income has increased by 90 percent in 2021-22. In 2018-19, the income of Mamata Banerjee's party was Rs 144.73 crore. TMC overtakes Congress in terms of earnings to get the 2nd spot.
