Srinagar: The 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' under the leadership of former Congress National President and current Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi reached Jammu on Thursday (January 19) evening. Former CM and National President of National Conference (NC) Farooq Abdullah praised Rahul Gandhi. Abdullah said that Rahul Gandhi is the second person after Shankaracharya to undertake such a yatra. Abdullah also said that this is the country of 'Ram' and 'Gandhi'.

According to media reports, Farooq Abdullah has said that 'Centuries ago Shankaracharya came here. He walked when there were no roads, except forests. He went to Kashmir on foot from Kanyakumari. Rahul Gandhi is the second person, who took out the yatra from the same Kanyakumari and is reaching Kashmir. Farooq Abdullah further said that the purpose of the yatra is to unite the country against hatred. This is the country of Gandhi and Ram, where we are all one.

Abdullah, who was the state's CM during the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus in the 90s, said, 'The purpose of this visit is to unite India. Hatred is being created in India and people are being made against each other in the name of religion. The India of Gandhi and Ram was the one where we all were united. This Yatra is trying to unite India. Its enemies are the enemies of India, humanity, and the people. At the same time, on terrorism, Abdullah said that it will not end until the Government of India talks with Pakistan. However, even during this, he did not make any appeal to the Muslim youth of Kashmir not to become terrorists.

Ekta Yatra was started in 1991:-

Let us tell you that after the massacre of Kashmiri Hindus, BJP had taken out the Ekta Yatra. The yatra started from Tamil Nadu on December 11 and reached Srinagar. Murli Manohar Joshi was leading this yatra, while the command of its coordination was in the hands of the current PM Narendra Modi. The yatra passed through 14 states. On January 25, 1992, the yatra had to stop at Patnitop, but still, Murli Manohar Joshi and Narendra Modi hoisted the tricolor after reaching the last stop of the yatra at Lal Chowk, despite all the threats from the terrorists. Although Rahul Gandhi was also supposed to hoist the tricolor here earlier, but later the Congress decided to hoist the flag at its party office instead of Lal Chowk.
