WEST BENGAL: Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidates are off to a strong start in the West Bengal assembly by-elections, according to initial reports. The by-polls, held on July 10 for four assembly seats-- Maniktala, Bagdah, Ranaghat Dakshin, and Raiganj--saw TMC candidates leading as counting commenced on the morning of July 13.
While official results are still pending from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, preliminary data from TV channels indicates TMC's early advantage in several key areas. TV9 Bangla has reported that TMC is leading in Maniktala (Kolkata), Ranaghat Dakshin, Bagdah (North 24 Parganas), and Raiganj (Uttar Dinajpur).
In the 2021 Assembly elections, the BJP had won the Ranaghat Dakshin and Bagdah seats, as well as the Raiganj seat. The Maniktala seat was held by TMC until February 2022, when it became vacant following the death of former State Minister Sadhan Pandey.
As the counting process continues, all eyes are on the final results to see if TMC can maintain its lead and secure these important constituencies.
