New Delhi: The Central Government has decided to change the name of the historic Rajpath in Delhi and the Central Vista Lawn from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate as 'Kartavyapath'. Yes, although on this decision of the government, Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra has targeted BJP. In fact, questioning this decision, she said, 'What is this happening? Has BJP made it its only duty to change our culture? Do our heritage have to rewrite history in their madness?'

Following the decision, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the entire area, which has been revamped under the government's ambitious Central Vista redevelopment project, on the evening of September 8. At the same time, sources related to this matter said that the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has called a special meeting on September 7 regarding the renaming of Rajpath and Central Vista Lawn to duty path and the proposal will be placed before the council. Apart from this, he said, 'From Netaji's statue at India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhavan, the entire route and area will be known as Kartavyapath.'

On the other hand, Rajpath was called Kingsway during the British period. Let us tell you that Prime Minister Modi in his Independence Day speech this year emphasized ending the symbols showing colonial thinking. Simultaneously, sources related to the matter said that the Prime Minister has stressed on the importance of all the people performing their duties in the next 25 years till 2047 and this spirit can be seen in the name Kartavyapath. Apart from this, she said that the Modi government had changed the names of many roads to people-centric names even before this. In 2015, the name of Race Course Road was changed to Lok Kalyan Marg, where the Prime Minister's residence is located.

Let us tell you that in the year 2015, the name of Aurangzeb Road was changed to APJ Abdul Kalam Road. With this, Dalhousie Road was renamed as Darashikoh Road in the year 2017. Let us tell you that there have been many proposals to change the name of Akbar Road, but no decision has been taken yet.
