Chennai:  Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin is holding a  review meeting with State Health Minister Ma Subramanian, Health Secretary and health officials at the secretariat regarding COVID preventive measures and protocols to be adhered to as the COVID cases spike globally.

The Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, and the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar, both wore masks as Parliamentary proceedings got underway on Thursday.

In response to a dramatic rise in Covid cases in China and other nations, a few other MPs, including Raghav Chadda, Sushil Gupta, and Minister of State for Skill Development Rajeev Chandrasekhar, were spotted wearing masks in Parliament on Thursday. Security, Visitors and Personal Staff also wore masks.

Today in the late afternoon, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over a high-level conference to assess the Covid-19 crisis and its local implications.

The assistant chief secretary of Health announced on Wednesday that the central government has briefed all states to conduct genomic sequencing of samples in light of a recent global spike in Covid-19 infections.

This meeting comes after, State and central governments are on high alert as 4 cases of this new variant have been reported in India. Three people in Gujarat and one in Odisha have been infected with BF.7 variant.

Also, there has been an alarming surge in Covid cases in China, Japan, South Korea, France, and the United States.
