HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court has permitted several engineering colleges to collect the hiked fees for BTech courses for the period of 2022-23 to 2024-25 on certain conditions.

A group of petitions from 14 engineering colleges asking the court to order the Eamcet convener, the Telangana Admissions and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC), and others to permit them to collect the increased fee were being heard by Justice K. Lakshman.

According to the petitioner colleges, they submitted their pricing suggestions to the TAFRC based on the facilities offered. Both parties agreed on the fee fixation at personal hearings held by TAFRC. The colleges approached the High Court because the TAFRC had still not contacted them even after more than a month had passed.

Justice Lakshman allowed the requests of the colleges on the basis of several stipulations after hearing arguments. The final result of the petitions will determine whether or not the additional fees are collected. The colleges must repay any excess fees if the fees they have received are higher than the TAFRC's announced rate.

Vardhaman College was given permission to take home Rs. 1.55 lakh, CVR College Rs. 1.5 lakh, Guru Nanak College Rs. 1.2 lakh, KG Reddy College Rs. 1 lakh, Sphoorthy Rs. 95,000, Gokaraju Lailavathi Women's College Rs. 70,000, and so on.

On August 17, The Madras High Court agreed to an urgent hearing of a batch of cases filed by some deemed universities and self-financing medical colleges against the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) insistence that they must collect only the fees collected in government medical colleges from 50 percent of their students.
