Chennai: M K Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has stated that the tableaux for the Republic Day parade that were rejected by the Centre will be displayed across the state. He also stated that the state would hold a photo exhibition titled "Tamil Nadu in the Freedom Struggle" in all major cities throughout the country.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Stalin expressed shock and disbelief over the state's rejection of tableaux submitted for participation in the Republic Day parade, saying that Tamil Nadu's contribution to the country's freedom was equal to that of any other state. The letter written by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh rejecting the state tableaux was "unconvincing," he said.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister further noted that the "Vellore Insurrection" of 1806 predated the Sepoy mutiny of 1857, and that 'Veerathai' Velu Nachiyar, the queen of Nachiyar, battled against the British over 70 years before Rani of Jhansi faced the invaders.
He also included Veerapandya Kattabomman, the Maruthur brothers, Veeran Sundralingam, Pulithevan, and Dheeran Chinnamalai, all of whom were born in Tamil Nadu. He stated that the rejection of tableaux showing brave Tamil Nadu warriors was an insult to the state's people.
