New Delhi: India on Friday sent the coronavirus vaccine 'covishield' of the Serum Institute of India (SII) in its neighbouring country of Myanmar, Seychelles and Mauritius as donations. The vaccine is being first sent to Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Seychelles under grant-in-aid.

Afghanistan and Sri Lanka also plan to send the vaccine. In addition to these donations, the supply of covishield in several countries that have entered into agreements with India will start from today, January 22. According to the information, two aircraft will carry two million doses of the vaccine to Brazil and Morocco on Friday morning. Under India's neighbourhood first policy, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Maldives have been handed over to covishield, as India will provide all kinds of assistance to its allies if required under the first policy.

India had earlier assisted the Maldives in evacuating citizens of its neighbouring country Maldives from Wuhan, China, between March and April 2020, when the world corona was reeling under a lockdown and was being put under lockdown in every major capital city of the world. At the same time, India had developed a 14-member rapid response team in the Maldives during the entire corona epidemic. The team consisted of doctors and paramedics who guided the Authorities and Personnel of Maldives in dealing with the virus.
