BRUSSELS: The bloc is looking for strong evidence of any Iranian involvement in Russia's invasion of Ukraine, according to the EU's top diplomat.
In recent weeks, Ukraine has received reports of a wave of Russian attacks using Iranian-made drones, the Shaheed-136. The Russian drone was not supplied by Iran, according to the Kremlin, which has not responded.
As Josep Borrell arrived for a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, he told reporters, "We will look for concrete evidence about Iran's involvement in the (Ukraine war)". Borrell also said that Ukraine's Dimitro Kuleba would attend the event.
According to two diplomats involved in setting up ministerial discussions, the EU may decide to move forward towards imposing new sanctions against Iran. However, no specific decision was expected on Monday.
