KABUL: Afghanistan: A top official in Afghanistan's Taliban-led government has encouraged the international community to assist the war-torn country in the face of an ongoing humanitarian crisis, without taking into account the country's political concerns.

According to reports, the Taliban's Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar stated the current situation in Afghanistan was "serious" in a video broadcast on the state-run RTA media channel. "On the one hand, there are punitive sanctions, and on the other hand, Afghanistan has had no infrastructure for the previous 20 years to allow work prospects for its citizens," he said.

Mullah Baradar claims that individuals all around the country are in desperate need of money, housing, and food.  "In the current scenario, the Afghans require rapid humanitarian assistance from the international community," he stated.

Mullah Baradar, on the other hand, stated that the Taliban government is well equipped to deal with the emergency situation and that all ministries and government offices have been directed to assist the civilians. Heavy snowfall and rain have pounded the country since earlier this week, exacerbating the situation for those in desperate need of humanitarian aid.

Humanitarian organisations have regularly warned of a serious disaster in Afghanistan during the frigid winter.
